Which is safer: Highway or cityroads?

Made a trip down to Orlando last Friday to teach a class. It's a 2-hrs drive via the highway and a 3.5-hrs drive if I was to avoid the highway. Since I have only been driving for 1.5 months, my friends advised me to avoid the highway. So, for my trip to Orlando, I went via the cityroads. However when I was about 20 miles away from Orlando, I took a wrong turn and found myself on the highway.

Actually, I was pretty glad that I made the wrong turn because it turns out that the drive on the highway was a lot smoother. In fact, I felt that it was more dangerous to drive by the cityroads because there were more traffic lights, more traffic and higher possibilites of unexpected events happening. Haha... needless to say, for on my trip back, I headed straight for the highway.

So why is it unadvisable for new drivers to go on the highway? Actually for a long trip, I think that it's probably safer to go by the highway rather than to go via the cityroads. Comments?

Withdraw from class

So sad, my student who is serving in Iraq has to withdraw from the class because he is going for another mission.

Matters of the heart

Today on my way home, I was listening to the radio and the DJ asked a question that I couldn't answer, "why does the heart seem to always go for someone who is not readily available"? Is it true that the course of true love never did run smooth, or are we just wired to make life difficult for ourselves. Haha... opps... or is it just me?

Updates

Haven't been blogging for a while because I had been preoccupied by a couple of thigns recently. 1) had to rush out a book chapter on equipment replacement (i.e. my research) for an editor because we promised to give it to him by 30 Sept, 2) was down with flu and just felt like sleeping every single second of the day, 3) bought an electric keyboard and have been experimenting with it. Oh oh, and yesterday, I changed my windshield wiper by myself. Both of them!! So proud of myself. Bought them from Walmart, rolled up my sleeves and presto, I have two new windshield wipers. Well done Chin Hon *pat on back*.

This semester, I am the teaching assistant for a probability class. I have some students who are not based in Florida but "attending" the class remotely. One student is currently serving in Iraq and occasionally needs extra time to submit his assignment. Just how cool is that?! Haha... I was like, yes please do focus on your work over there and just let me know if you need more time for your assignments.

Hehe... and we are also conducting a similar class for some working class people in Orlando as well. Will be making a trip down to Orlando this Friday to give a tutorial session. Haha... can stop by the outlets to do some shopping. Finally, I get to "travel" on company budget again.
